Like I said yesterday I’m struggling to find the time for this challenge, so today I’m joining in but I’m kind of cheating. Rather than trying to represent ‘Gifts’ I’ve used a polish I bought myself as a gift a the weekend.
This is Butter London – West End Wonderland. It’s definitely the most beautiful gold glitter I’ve ever seen and it contains a few copper particles which give amazing depth. West End Wonderland has made me very happy! If you’re anywhere near Wandsworth TK Maxx they still had loads of these on Sunday…
I tell you what, I’m struggling with this advent challenge. I’ve got so much on this week and next week that there’s no way I’m going to manage nail art every day (experience tells me that my best work is not done drunk at midnight…) It’s pissing me off that I’m posting things that would normally never see the light of day, I want to try and keep the quality of the blog as high as I can and that just isn’t going to happen if I try and keep this up.
Plus, it’s Christmas and really I just want to wear glitter. Nothing but glitter. All the time.
So I think I’m going to dip in and out when I can, but I’m not going to manage to complete the full 24 days.
However, I have had a go at ‘Lights’. I think everyone’s seen a version of this mani around the internets, so I thought I’d have a go. We’ve got old faithful Sally Hansen – White On and Orly – Liquid Vinyl, plus glitter from one of my Snowman polishes for the lights.
Perhaps not my best work, but not too bad…!
I’m so glad this theme fell on a Saturday so I could take my time with these nails. ‘Starry Night’ screams galaxy nails which I’ve never attempted before and while I haven’t gone all out for true galaxies, I think I’ve got something approximating them.
I used Orly – Sea Gurl as my base and did a cling film (saran wrap) effect over the top with L’Oreal – VIP Status. This has got a bit lost under everything else, but it’s always fun to do! Then we’ve got Barry M – Christmas Gold and Essence – Be Optimistic! (their exclamation mark, not mine) sponged on top. I finished with some stars from a nail art set I bought in Poundland to give you my literal interpretation of ‘Starry Night.’
The fabulous Mommy Love Nail Polish has compiled a list of everyone taking part in the advent challenge which you’ll find
Two birds with one stone today, a quick mani on my newly nubbified nails to get myself caught up with the advent calendar challenge.
My inspiration here is these Pantone baubles:
I say inspiration, I’ve copied them exactly…
You might spot on a couple of them where I experimented with adding a ring to the end of the baubles, I decided that just looked weird so I covered it over but it didn’t quite work on the red and yellow.
The white is Sally Hansen – White On and from left to right we’ve got:
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure – Grass Slipper
Barielle – Lemondrops
Orly – Ma Cherie
Bourjois – Bleu Violet
Bourjois – Bleu Model
I’ll see you back here tomorrow for something a bit more festive.
I’m just getting this one in before the end of the day, it’s been a busy one…
You’re going to have to take my word for it that this manicure looks awesome in real life, I’ve tried taking pictures of it in three different rooms and I cannot capture the colours correctly.
We’ve got Pop Beauty – Poetic Peacock which looks brighter and more shimmery in the bottle, but here’s a quick swatch of it by itself:
Then I got out my trusty hole reinforcers and slapped on Sally Hansen HD – Spectrum to make swirly patterns. The bottle colours of these two polishes look almost identical and I thought we might be close to a dupe, but on the nail they are nothing alike. Poetic Peacock is a dark shimmery creme, whilst Spectrum is a vibrant glass flecky micro glitter in a translucent base.
And this is what I ended up with, it’s subtle but I can’t stop staring!
I’m afraid that I’m filing today’s challenge nails under ‘f’ for ‘fail’. Firstly because they’re not actually silver, secondly because they’re completely lacking in imagination, and thirdly, well the execution just isn’t quite there.
In my defence I’ve been away from home for a couple of days and I only brought with me what I could grab for these challenges. So even though I knew that my base colour, Leighton Denny – Sex Kitten wasn’t actually silver, somehow in combination with Pop Beauty – Aquatic Glitz it would give the illusion of being silver. I think it sort of worked, but additionally I really hate wearing silver nails.
When I dinged my middle finger I didn’t bother fixing it because, like I said I hate this and I can’t wait to change these tomorrow! Take a look anyway…
And here’s Sex Kitten on its own:
I’m going to come right out and say it, these are my favourite Advent Challenge nails so far. But first, here’s a straight up swatch of my base colour China Glaze Jolly Holly from their 2010 Holiday Collection.
This is gorgeous and Christmassy all on its own right?
But I didn’t want to leave it there, so I applied striping tape in a bit of an abstract fashion and painted over with one of the Snowman polishes I picked up in Rite Aid last time I was in the US. It’s a minty tealy green glitter that I wasn’t sure would be complimentary, but it’s worked a treat!
Even though the striping is random, somehow this makes me think of wreaths and strips of fairy lights and makes me even more impatient for Christmas…
And don’t forget to check out everyone else who’s participating in the Advent Challenge, Polish Alcoholic is kindly keeping a list.
