Advent Nail Art Challenge Day 6 – White & Day 7 – Ornaments

Two birds with one stone today, a quick mani on my newly nubbified nails to get myself caught up with the advent calendar challenge.

My inspiration here is these Pantone baubles:

I say inspiration, I’ve copied them exactly…

You might spot on a couple of them where I experimented with adding a ring to the end of the baubles, I decided that just looked weird so I covered it over but it didn’t quite work on the red and yellow.

The white is Sally Hansen – White On and from left to right we’ve got:

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure – Grass Slipper
Barielle – Lemondrops
Orly – Ma Cherie
Bourjois – Bleu Violet
Bourjois – Bleu Model

I’ll see you back here tomorrow for something a bit more festive.

Flying Fail

All being well when this post is published I’ll be on a plane. I’m flying to Nashville for work for a couple of weeks. Not the most excited I’ve ever been about a business trip, but we’ll see how it goes I guess.

So while spending the day washing every item of clothing I own and trying to get enough of it dry to pack I figured I should do my nails, after all you never know who you might meet in an airport.

This is a lesson in what happens when you fail to plan. After applying base coat I taped some vertical stripes of naked nail and painted on Essie Nice Is Nice. After removing the tape and top coating I added horizontal striping tape and sponged on Bourjois So Laque in Bleu Violet. Turns out none of that made any sense and in the end it just looks a bit lame, not dreadful, but not what I wanted.

I’m leaving my striping tape and sponges at home, so anything I do while I’m away should be a bit different. Let’s hope so anyway!

See what you think…

Tape and Dots and and and…. Stuff!

So I needed to find something to do with my hands while watching the Wimbledon Mens Final. I started with a base colour of Milani Yellow Whiz (tee hee!) This is my only Milani and the best formula on a yellow I’ve come across. Here it is in sunlight…

But on a Sunday afternoon with time on hands I couldn’t leave it at that, so here’s what I came up with:

I’ll get the excuses in first, there is no way I will ever learn to photograph my right hand, in fact I think I’ve given myself claw hand just by trying. These were taken after a full day of wear at work, so they’re showing a bit of tip wear and suffering from me picking around the cuticles. But I did fool at least one person into thinking I’d picked up some new nail strips in New York – I did of course, but these are not they.

The greeny turquoise is Bourjois So Laque in Bleu Model. I picked this up on a whim in Waitrose of all places a few weeks ago. I feel like the yellow is making it look more green when it would otherwise look a bit more blue.

Well this was by no means perfect, but it was certainly my best ever attempt at a tape mani, I am proud!
