Pre Spring Challenge – Day 11 – Beach

Look at me, squeezing in another post before the end of the weekend! I will get this challenge finished eventually…

My beach themed mani is inspired by these beach huts:

The bright colours made me happy, so I’ve transferred them to my nails like so:

I used Sally Hansen – White On as a base for all of them and the others are as follows…

Orange – Leighton Denny – Perfect To Party
Yellow – Milani – Yellow Whiz
Green – Sally Hansen – Grass Slipper
Blue – Sally Hansen – Model Behaviour
Red – Orly – Ma Cherie

Pre Spring Challenge – Day 8 – Jewellery

I’ve shamelessly copied a couple of other ladies and gone for a caviar manicure today, which is kind of jewellery for the nails, right?

Also, I got some bargains at Poundland this weekend which I couldn’t wait to try out. The main colour in this mani is Sally Hansen – Lavender Cloud which obviously is not lavender, but it is gorgeous and I think it may have sated my lemming for My Boyfriend Scales Walls.

I’ve been avoiding spending money on any gimmicky textured nail kits, but when I found this in Poundland I couldn’t refuse…

Although I don’t mind the grittiness on my nails, I’m not convinced these are going to stay on, somehow they just feel a bit precarious. I don’t think this is the product’s fault, tiny beads are tiny beads after all.

So here’s the finished manicure:

Pre Spring Challenge – Day 7 – Pastel Tape Mani

I’ve missed a couple of days out from the Pre Spring Challenge, realistically I was never going to manage to do my nails on a Friday – Friday is pub day, so yesterday I had an aborted attempt at combining the themes of Sky and Sun. It was such a disaster I don’t think it will be seeing the light of day.

So we resume with Day 7 – Pastel and Taping. This was my second try and I’m really pleased with it. It’s not often you see my naked nails, but I spent a good long time buffing and moisturising this afternoon so I think they’re presentable.

This is so simple and for once I’m happy with my work, yey for pastels and tape.

The colours I used are:

Orange – Love & Beauty – Neon Orange (it’s really not neon)
Lilac – Essie – Nice Is Nice
Pink – Color Club – I Believe In Amour
Yellow – OPI – Fiercely Fiona
Blue – Color Club – Take Me To Your Chateau
Grey – Sally Hansen – Dorien Grey

Pre Spring Challenge – Day 3 – Green

Considering how many green manicures I’ve worn lately, I’m not sure how I ended up not using much green on a day that’s supposed to be all about the colour. But still I quite like this one, it’s supposed to be grass growing in a muddy field, whether it really looks like that or is just wonky French tips I don’t really mind.

I used one of my vintage polishes, Zoya – Meryl for the background, I must swatch this one on its own for you, it’s yummy. The green is Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure – Grass Slipper which is one of my all time favourite greens.

Not my best camerawork today, but I’m tired, ok..?

So here you go, Day 3 and I’m still going strong!

Pre Spring Challenge – Day 1 – Yellow

So I’m having a crack at the Pre-Spring Challenge hosted by Mommy Love Nail Polish and Polish Alcoholic.

Let’s hope that Day 1 is the biggest disaster I have in this challenge and the only way is up from here! To begin with I’m dealing with my newly nubbified nails – an evening of beer, bowling, dodgems and air hockey is a recipe for breakages if ever I found one.

The plan was to paint my nails white with Sally Hansen -White On (so far so good) then sponge on Milani – Yellow Whiz in a gradient coming from all sides to make a kind of sunburst, this is where things started to go wrong. I couldn’t get the gradient to look properly gradual, so I thought I would mattify things and see if that helped. It didn’t. And somewhere between the sponging and the mattifying I managed to get bits of fluff stuck on my nails and the pale colour really showed it up. I didn’t have time to start again, so what’s a girl to do, but grab a Sharpie that was lying around and doodle on my nails.

Of course the doodling is a complete mess and sponging on yellow is not good news for the colour of my cuticles, but the pattern kind of reminds me of a messy version of some of Wah Nails’ work – I realise I flatter myself, but you know what I mean.

Time I shut up and got to the pictures, yes..?

There’s an Inlinkz thing to link to all the ladies participating in this challenge, but I haven’t worked out how to use that from my ipad, so for the time being, please visit one of the hosts from the links at the top.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure – Crinoline

Quick palate cleanser today to help me transition from Christmas to New Year. This is one of my most exciting Poundland finds, it doesn’t look like much in the bottle, but on the nail it’s persuaded me to make it my new go to ‘sensible’ colour for when I need to pretend to be a grown up.

I don’t tend to wear straight up whites because I find them a bit Kim Kardashian, but Crinoline has just a touch of pink to make it really flattering. It’s more sheer than I expected, so it took three fairly thick coats for opacity, but I think this is what stopped it from becoming streaky like most light coloured creams. Let’s have a look…

Of course I couldn’t leave it at that, so I added a coat of Color Club – Si Vous Please, a multi-coloured pastel glitter from their French collection a couple of years ago. This is one of my favourite ever glitters which can make any manicure feel a bit more special. It does dry a bit gritty, but I’m not one to be worried about texture and I didn’t really want any more coats of polish, so I went without topcoat. And here we are…

Goldie Snowy Mani Thingie

I’ve had this mani in my head for weeks, and had I continued with the advent challenge I would have worked it in somewhere.

But it’s still December and it isn’t overtly Christmassy, more Wintry and so perfect for the pre New Year lull.

I did a couple of coats of Barry M – Christmas Gold and blobbed on some Sally Hansen – White On using the ‘saran wrap’ technique. I was actually using some plastic packaging which was a bit too crinkly to blot with, so I blobbed on more gold and more white as I thought it needed.

As you might expect this made for a bit of a mess, here’s a before-cleanup picture:

So I didn’t quite manage to get lovely clean lines around the cuticles, but overall I’m pretty pleased with the results, take a look…
